As part of the year-long celebration of its 70th anniversary, Singapore Airlines (SIA) held a special thanksgiving dinner, treating guests to an epicurean journey with exceptional food and music representing key destinations that the Airlines have flown to for the past seven decades. Entitled “A Tale of SIA Cities”, the dinner was a way to showcase the great heights that SIA has soared to, and to express gratitude to the people who have helped them along the way.
SIA’s tale began in 1947 when it started operating three flights a week to just three destinations. Continuously pioneering innovations and services for the past 70 years, the Singapore Airlines group, which includes its regional wing SilkAir and its low cost carriers Scoot and Tigerair, flies to 134 destinations across 37 countries – the most recent addition being Stockholm, which commenced operations last 30 May.
“Inspired and driven to deliver a great way to fly, Singapore Airlines has soared through countless milestones and pioneered various innovations to deliver unparalleled service and travel experience to our customers”, said Philip Goh, Regional VP for Southeast Asia.
As it celebrates its 70th anniversary, this much awarded airline is not resting on its laurels. “It has truly been an amazing journey so far and as we stand here today, the Airline is embarking on a new transformation journey as we continue to build and strengthen the SIA legacy further”, added Goh.
Hosted by singer-actress Pinky Marquez, the thanksgiving celebration was graced by Her Excellency Kok Li Peng, Ambassador of Singapore, along with DOT Undersecretary Benito Bengzon Jr., members of the diplomatic corps, esteemed PPS flyers, and valued travel partners. “I congratulate Singapore Airlines for 70 years of unwavering passion and leadership in bridging the gap across nations through travel. I am looking forward to the countless milestones SIA will venture into in the years to come”, said Her Excellency Kok Li Peng.
Tasked with the responsibility of leading the Philippines team into this new chapter is the new General Manager of
SIA Philippines, Balagopal Kunduvara. Using his extensive background in SIA, from engineering to business development, Kunduvara is set to take on this challenge to further strengthen the position of the airline in the country.
“It is with pride and honour that I take on the responsibility of leading the transformation of Singapore Airlines in the Philippines, and building upon our position as the carrier of choice for Filipinos. The country has been a significant contributor to the growth and evolution of the company and my goal is to give Filipinos the level of service and travel experience you truly deserve,” said the new GM.
For 70 years, Singapore Airlines has been committed to providing its customers ‘a great way to fly’. With these recent innovations and the change in local leadership, this platinum anniversary celebration marks the continuation of a success story.
SIA flies from Manila to Singapore four times daily, which conveniently connects to onward flights to the rest of the world. Passengers traveling from Cebu, Davao and Kalibo can fly to Singapore via SilkAir, which flies 12 times weekly from Cebu, nine times weekly from Davao, and three times weekly from Kalibo.
