HONG KONG, 2nd AUGUST 2017 – The Strand Yangon is rapidly garnering a reputation as one of the top culinary destinations in Myanmar, attracting gourmet travellers in search of a luxury cultural city break combined with a unique gastronomic experience. The hotel’s fine dining restaurant, The Strand Restaurant, will reopen for the season on 3 August 2017 with a new menu presented by Executive Chef, Christian Martena, inspired by his travels around Europe and Myanmar. The new menu will feature new ingredients never before seen on the Restaurant’s menu, such as white truffles from Alba in Italy.
Chef Christian regularly visits remote farming communities and suppliers in Myanmar to source the best of the country’s organic fruit, vegetables, fish, herbs and spices. Christian combines this produce with the finest imported ingredients discovered during his youth in Europe to present a menu of textures and colours inspired by his memories of the sights, sounds and smells encountered on these travels, particularly the rolling countryside of Tuscany and Puglia in Italy. Christian’s new menu is an interpretation of classic Mediterranean dishes, combining modern techniques with his traditional training in some of Europe’s most famous Michelin-starred kitchens.
One of the most architecturally beautiful dining rooms in South-East Asia, The Strand Restaurant was recently redesigned and restored as part of a six-month project to preserve The Strand Yangon’s 116-year colonial heritage while transforming it into Myanmar’ premier luxury hotel and urban resort. The restaurant has a high vaulted ceiling, colonial style pillars, a checkerboard floor in gleaming marble, sparkling chandeliers and museum quality black and gold lacquer panels from Bagan. The main room seats 45 diners, with a private dining room to the rear of the restaurant seating a further 10 guests.
For the perfect weekend gastronomic break, The Strand Yangon has launched a two-night Fine Wine & Dine package, which includes accommodation in a Superior Suite based on double occupancy, a six-course dinner for two in The Strand Restaurant, a three-course lunch or dinner for two in The Strand Café and return airport transfers. Valid from 1st August until the end of 2017, the package is priced from USD$868.80 (approximately HK$6,777).
The Strand Restaurant is open for dinner weekly from Tuesday to Saturday (Thursday to Saturday only in August) and serves an a la carte and degustation menus of Mediterranean dishes enhanced with seasonal produce.
